Flood update! By now you have all seen the news, Ford nation aka Etobicoke got hit the hardest! It's a good thing we cancelled as the roads were unpassable . Dave had to leave his new audi at the side of the road (since recovered) because he could not drive through the 2km lake into our neighbourhood. I hope you all turned back safely, we had no power from 5:45pm onward until 9:00am this morning, therefore I could not send an email blast informing people not to come, then I went to calling and texting but even that was not reliable as I got Christine's machine both home and cell, Carolyn's machine and when we talked we got cut off 3 times due to blackberry and wireless being down. And jacqueline's machine....So ladies in this digital world I hope you all were safe. We had no way of communicating without power or wireless networks. So The cottage will just have to be epic. Does everyone want to discuss the Interestings in August at the cottage and move everything forward a month so Natalie's will be next month's read? Also we can tack Dawn hosting on to the end of our cycle? Please weigh in on which option you prefer:#1 discuss two books in August, #2 Discuss the Interestings in August and move everything ahead by a month. I finished the book because I chose it but others may not have.
Also please give home number, cell and email in your comment so we can reach out during disasters. Also feel free to share your story, we have a flooded basement that we continue to clean out tonight. We have power going on and off still. Hope everyone is safe, the silver lining to our basement flood is a forced purge of all our crap. Loss= Dave's vinyl record collection from the 60s and 70s. They are drying throughout our house! Ford better knock on my door to see if we are okay!

I would love to re-schedule the July book club/pool party for another day this month per Dawn's schedule. It's best that we do one book at a time. So sorry about your basement Laura, we had a bit of flooding in our cantina - nothing huge or damaging. We didn't lose any power either we were lucky. Unfortunately a lot of people especially with new houses (the million $ townhomes on claremont) all flooded- I've been hearing horror stories at Trinity Bellwoods. So sorry about Dave's LPs! I was hoping to discuss our July book in July -- maybe reschedule a day that is convenient for Dawn. That way if someone can not make book club in August they don't have to miss 2 discussions

I was hoping that book club would be rescheduled to this Monday. If Dawn can't host maybe we meet somewhere on College St. like the Diplomatico. The book is already slipping away from me. I'll never remember enough about by August to have a decent discussion.
I think that sounds like a great idea -- if Dawn can not host this monday then College Street sounds good to me too.
I was also thinking that the book is fresh in my mind now ....
I can't make next week or August. Go ahead with what works best for the group.
Dawn -- if you want to host a pool party book club - I am the September host. You can have that date and I will take February. No pressure, just let me know.

It looks like the consensus is for this Monday. Even when it was pouring rain last Monday, I had still packed my things for a pool party. I was optimistic that it was going to clear up. I couldn't be more excited about the prospect of a pool party.

I would love a pool party. I have not read the book and will not have it read by Monday so I may have to just be lazy and do nothing. Sounds great.
It took me exactly 3 hours to drive from Toronto to Mississauga for work. Kinda crazy. I got stuck on the 401 in a bit of a puddle backlog. Will show you a picture when I see you.
My phone worked well and my basement did not flood at any of my houses!! How lucky is that.

Seems I left all the real summer sunshine in BC but the price we paid was a 4hr flight turned into a 16hr travel day as the airport was crazy!
Back at work Monday so book club will be a highlight as I settle into the grind! If I can grab a ride with anyone that would be great.
Looking forward to discussing the books separately as they are just so very different!
