So I have chosen an autobiography that I think would make for a fascinating read and good conversation.
AUDITION: A Memoir - By Barbara Walters
Though looking at the details on Chapters (released 2008 so likely on sale) I just saw its a big book - 600 pages!- so if there are any objections to the length let me know asap! I figure its the type of book that you dont need to finish to "know" the ending so perhaps we don't mind?

It is a good conversation book - I read it, and I don't mind if we discuss it for December. There are some surprising facts about Barbara's life.
Also, are we doing a Christmas gift exchange this year? What is the budget?
